What You Will Do
- Provide one-on-one observation and care of designated patients.
- Assist with lifting, positioning, transferring and ambulating patients.
- Responding to patient requests, including call bells.
- Assisting patients in daily activities including feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.;
- Record observations and reports any changes/problems in patient’s condition, such as mobility, temperature, appetite and behavior.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent;
- Successful completion of an accredited Health Care program with 6 months recent patient care experience (i.e. Patient Care Assistant, Health Care Aide; Personal Support Worker, nursing assistant, physiotherapy/occupational therapy assistant, or Registered Practical Nurse); OR Currently enrolled in a health-related course with 6 months recent patient care experience;
- Basic knowledge of established Infection Control and Occupational Health & Safety practices; • Basic knowledge of sterility and aseptic technique;
- Knowledge of body mechanics, and safe lift and transfer practices;
- CPR (Heartsaver or BCLS); • Good oral/written communication and listening skills are required to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team, patients, and visitors; • Ability to cope with change in patient condition;
- Good decision-making skills to prioritize work;
- Basic math skills required for monitoring intake/output;
- Eligible to work in Canada.
